Dear Class of 2020, is an online event streamed on YouTube. It is a ceremony for the students that could not graduate; many celebrities held speeches and three artists performed including BTS.
During their Festa 2020, BTS also took the time to be a part of this event.
Phase 1 : The Speech
On June, 7th of 2020, around 4 PM EST, the seven members of BTS held little speeches for the students that graduated this year. It started by leader NAMJOON, that talked all in English. He talked about his own graduation and how he went through it.
BTS channel on YouTube, BANGTANTV, uploaded the content, just after it was broadcasted. All the members held a little speech on how they lived their own graduation. Member JUNGKOOK was the last member of BTS who went to high school and graduated. He talked about how his members were there for him during his middle school and high school qualifications.
BTS talked about how you can always make a change and that “you are the leader of your life.” Member JIMIN said that no matter what you do and how you feel, someone in South Korea will always be here to support you.
Phase 2 : The Performance
Around 7 PM EST, BTS was the last one after Megan Thee Stallion and CNCO to perform. The group first sang their hit featuring Halsey “Boy with Luv.” They then delivered an emotional performance of “Spring Day” while sitting down. The song can be interpreted as a tribute for the Sewol ferry accident in 2014. It is about missing someone and thinking about the past.
Lastly, BTS sang “Mikrokosmos” a song from the EP “Map of the Soul: Persona.” It is a song that BTS wrote and sang for the ARMY. The lyrics are about giving comfort and love to a person you cherish. It looked like the members particularly chose songs to give hope to many students that graduated along with the ARMY.
